Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is the highly anticipated, third installment to the Final Fantasy XIII series made by Square Enix. It is a direct sequel to Final Fantasy XIII-2. Together, the three form a part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis sub-series of the Final Fantasy games.
This new game is vastly different from its two predecessors. This time, the main character, Lightning, is in a world which will end in 13 days. Lightning must race against time to save souls so that they may be brought into a new world. It has similar concepts to The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask in that time can be manipulated.
Reviews of the Japanese version have claimed that there is much more emphasis on battle tactics and timing than in any previous Final Fantasy game. In other words, it is not simply a “mash the X button to win” gaming experience this time around.
It is available for pre-order now from Square Enix on their official site for PS3 and Xbox 360 for the price of $89.99. The company is promising launch-date delivery on Feb. 11. And, if you order two or more copies (maximum of five) and live in the 48 contiguous states, you get free shipping.
