The U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) is issuing advisories for Tropical Storm Nadine, Tropical Storm Leslie, and Hurricane Sergio. Hurricane Michael, meanwhile, is continuing to strengthen.

Nadine

Tropical Storm Nadine formed on Oct. 9, and it is located 495 miles west-southwest of the southernmost Cabo Verde Islands near West Africa. The storm is moving 8 mph to the west-northwest.

No coastal watches or warnings are in effect.

“Nadine is moving toward the west-northwest near 8 mph (13 kph), and a motion generally toward the northwest is anticipated over the next few days,” the NHC said. “Maximum sustained winds remain near 40 mph (65 kph) with higher gusts. Some strengthening is possible over the next day or so, with weakening anticipated on Thursday,” Oct. 11.

Leslie

Tropical Storm Leslie is continuing to move east in the Atlantic Ocean, and the NHC said that the storm is likely going to become a hurricane.

No coastal warnings or watches are in effect.

“Leslie is moving toward the south-southeast near 12 mph (19 kph), and this general motion is expected to continue for the next day or so. A slower motion and a turn toward the east-northeast or northeast is expected by Wednesday,” said the agency. “Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 70 mph (110 kph) with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days and Leslie will likely become a hurricane tonight or tomorrow.”

The storm’s forecasted path could take it back to near the west coast of Africa.

Sergio

Tropical Storm Sergio is located in the Pacific Ocean about 1,155 miles west-southwest of Baja California, Mexico.

Interests in Baja California should monitor the progress of Sergio, said the NHC, adding that there are no warnings or watches in effect for the storm. The storm is moving to the east-northeast at 8 mph.

Over the coming days, the storm will likely weaken, the NHC said.

A forecast model shows the storm hitting southern Baja California before making its way into northwestern Mexico before hitting West Texas by the weekend.

Michael

Hurricane Michael is now a Category 3 major storm and is 295 miles south of Panama City, Florida, the NHC said at 5 p.m. on Oct. 9.

The storm is still forecast to hit the Florida Panhandle on the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 10.

“Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 120 mph (195 kph) with higher gusts. Michael is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Some additional strengthening is expected, and Michael is forecast to be a major hurricane at landfall in Florida. Weakening is expected after landfall as Michael moves through the southeastern United States,” the agency warned.
