Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, was granted bail by a London court on Thursday, after an appeal by Swedish prosecutors failed to go through.

Assange faces extradition to Sweden on charges of sex crimes. The charges are not directly related to WikiLeaks.

The Australian was arrested on Dec. 7 after turning himself in at a London police station.

The 200,000-pound (US$312,000) bail was granted with certain conditions, including daily check-ins at a police station and wearing an electronic tag. Assange is staying with Vaughan Smith, a former army officer and supporter of WikiLeaks, reported Reuters.

While talking to reporters, Assange said he heard rumors that the United States may have indicted him for espionage, ABC reported.

WikiLeaks has released hundreds of U.S. diplomatic cables out of approximately 250,000 over the last few weeks.
