It’s hard to imagine having the kind of talented entertainment family that Stella Gregg does. Her mom, Jennifer Grey, has had an impressive career spanning over 30 years of acting and dancing, including winning Dancing with the Stars in 2010. Stella’s grandfather Joel Grey is a Oscar and Tony award-winning actor.
Meanwhile Stella’s dad, Clark Gregg, has appeared on Broadway, on TV, and in several of Marvel Comics wildly successful films, including The Avengers, for which he won a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor.
But even with this incredible legacy, Jennifer Grey and Clark Gregg have kept their focus on raising a happy, healthy daughter whom they want to follow her dreams even if she doesn’t end up having anything to do with Broadway or Hollywood.
For anyone who was around in the 1980s, especially girls and women, Jennifer Grey will forever be remembered for her starring turn as Frances “Baby” Houseman opposite Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing. Though Grey didn’t get along with Swayze in real life, their onscreen chemistry was such that the film became the highest-grossing in 1987, and has become one of the biggest cult films of all time.
Grey’s quote, “I’m scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I’m with you,” has been ranked as one of the most romantic movie quotes of all time by The Daily Mail. And of course, the final dance performance with Swayze, “The Time of My Life,” remains unmatched.
She gave birth to Stella in 2001 and has been incredibly close with her daughter ever since, sharing a passion for dance and music. Stella even interviewed her mom in a hilarious and heartwarming piece for Redbook in 2011, when Grey had just won Dancing with the Stars.
In addition to asking her mom about who she would like to dance with (Lady Gaga), Stella asked if she and her school friends could learn some professional moves from Grey. Her mom laughed and responded, “I think you and your friends could teach me how to dance. I’ve seen some of your moves and I don’t know where you come up with them, but they’re fresh!”
Much more recently, Grey posted a video on Instagram of herself and Stella rocking out with some pretty amazing “mommy-daughter carpool karaoke.” From pop to show-tunes from Hamilton, the pair are clearly having a really good time together.
Stella’s dad has been just as involved in raising her. When he saw the mommy-daughter karaoke session, he posted on Facebook, “I need a heart bursting emoji.” Known for his standout performances as agent Phil Coulson in the Marvel Comics universe films from Iron Man (2009) to Captain Marvel (2019), Gregg has even got Stella in on the act.
In 2017, Stella guest starred alongside her dad in an episode of the ABC show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. called “Identity and Change.” Now that Stella is 18 years old, her first romances are sure to follow, a thought that has her protective dad more than a little nervous.
A few years ago, Ellen DeGeneres asked Gregg how he felt about the prospect of Stella having her first crushes and boyfriends. Gregg told a story that had Elle and the audience in stitches, as per Closer Weekly. “She went to a party with some people from her elementary school, now that she’s in middle school, and boys were there. And she came back and she said, ‘I think I’m getting thirsty for boys.’ So that’s a thirst we’re not going to let her quench for a while.”
to the father of my child: man, you showed up just in the nick o’time, and i wanna thank you for being not only willing…
As Stella gets older, it will be interesting to see if she follows her parents’ footsteps into the entertainment world or decides to do something completely different. Whatever she chooses, this young woman definitely has the beauty and grace of her parents in the blood!
