One dedicated “Harry Potter” fan received a special gift from the story’s creator.
Kate, who goes by the Twitter handle @AlwaysJLover, has suffered much hardship during her life, including sexual assault, repeated suicide attempts, and self-harm.
The “Harry Potter” fan wanted to get the words “Expecto Patronum” tattooed on the wrist she “usually cuts the most” as a catalyst to recovery.
The phrase, which means “I await a guardian” in Latin, is pivotal to the protagonists of the “Harry Potter” series. In the fantasy world, the words, when uttered, cast a spell that conjures a personal spirit guardian against dark creatures.
On May 11, Kate tweeted at her idol, J.K. Rowling, with the hopes of receiving a very special design for her ink.

“Through all the downs in my life, u helped me get through every single thing one way or another!” wrote the fan.
“I will never be able to thank you enough, Jo,” said Kate’s heartfelt message to the author.
The “Harry Potter” creator promptly replied. Rowling tweeted an image of the words written in her looping script.

Other fans, it seemed, might use Rowling’s gift to Kate for their own tattoo designs.
And Kate seems just fine with that.
