The New York Yankees have agreed to re-sign outfielder Ichiro Suzuki. The contract is for 2 years and is worth $13 million.

Suzuki, 39, joined the Yankees in late July after 12 seasons with the Seattle Mariners. With the Mariners, Ichiro set the single-season hits record with 262, surpassing George Sisler’s 257 hits in 1920. He was traded to the Yankees for two minor league pitche

During this offseason, through his agent, Ichiro Suzuki expressed an interest in playing for the Yankees again. The Philadelphia Phillies are reported to have offered a 2-year contract, worth $14 million. The World Series Champion San Francisco Giants are also reported to have offered a 2-year contract, worth $15 million. Despite offering more money, the Japanese outfielder was true to his word and has agreed to join the Yankees.

Ichiro Suzuki is a 10-time Gold Glove Award winner and 10-time All-Star from the years 2001 to 2010. He was the American League Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year in 2001. He became the second player in MLB history to win both awards in the same season since Fred Lynn. Ichiro Suzuki is expected to play in right field, joining Brett Gardner and Curtis Granderson in left field and center field, respectively.
