Ice Fisherman Catches Incredible Sight Under the Ice
When a Michigan man took his two daughters out ice-fishing for the first time, they caught something very unexpected on camera.
Out on the 13-inch-thick-ice of Burt Lake, David Thompson said something caught his eye.
He quickly pulled out his phone and recorded the amazing footage, above.
“I saw a flash,” Thompson told Michigan Live. “It didn’t take me long to recognize it as a sturgeon swimming beneath the ice.”
“It just mesmerized me,” he said. “I couldn’t believe it. It’s one of those things where you don’t think it’s really what you think it is at first.”
The footage, taken on Jan. 21, racked up over 240,000 views after he posted it to Facebook.
Thompson followed the fish for around 20 minutes, and estimates that it was 50-60 inches (around four to five feet) in length.
