A crash on I-81 in Maryland on Sunday has left traffic snarled.

The pile-up includes more than a dozen vehicles and has left traffic backed up.

Drivers are urged by the government to refrain from driving when possible because of a Winter Weather Advisory as snow continues falling.

The Maryland State Highway Administration said earlier at 1:30 p.m. that I-81 was closed in both directions at MD 58. It appears to be open again as of 4:20 p.m., but both sides are moving very slowly.

However, the Herald-Mail, a local media outlet, reported that multiple areas of the highway remain shut down in both directions after a series of accidents.

Officials are telling drivers to stay home if possible.

“Just stay home. They can’t drive anymore. It is that bad,” said Sam Anderson, emergency planner for Washington County Emergency Management.
