Hurricane Danielle swells are expected to arrive at the East Coast of the United States on Friday, according the US National Hurricane Center on Thursday night.

The hurricane, with its maximum sustained winds of 110 miles per hour, is about 625 miles southeast of Bermuda as of 11 p.m. EDT. It is expected to turn into a major Category 3 hurricane on Friday.

“Large surf and dangerous rip currents are expected throughout the weekend,” read a National Hurricane Center advisory, adding that the public should check their local weather office for local updates.

Hurricane Danielle may get as close as 230 miles east of Bermuda over the weekend. The islands will likely experience large surf and dangerous rip currents along its shore.

“Skies [will] become increasingly cloudy with showers developing,” read a Bermuda Weather Service forecast. “Large swells will develop, especially along South Shore. Danielle remains a potential threat.”

Hurricane Danielle is currently a Category 2 storm on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. It will upgrade to a Category 3 storm if its winds increase over 111 miles per hour.

However, the center predicts that the hurricane will move northeast into the Atlantic Ocean in the next few day afterward.
