Hong Kong’s primary schools and kindergartens will pause in-person learning on Friday due to COVID-19.

Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam said Tuesday that if the virus situation improves, students can return to class after the Lunar New Year holiday in the first week of February.

She added that students will eventually be able to go to schools to get vaccinated.

Hong Kong is trying to limit Omicron outbreaks after infections were reported in students.

The territory has tightened pandemic-related restrictions in recent days after discovering Omicron had spread beyond people arriving from overseas.
