HONG KONG—In last week’s HK Hockey Association Premier Group A HKFC-A hosted KNS-A and Khalsa-A played HKCC-A at King’s Park; while in Group B HKFC-B played at home against Shaheen-A and Pak-A met Valley-A at King’s Park.
The top match played at Hong Kong Football Club, HKFC-A against KNS-A lived up to its star billing. An early penalty corner chance for KNS was amazingly deflected round the post at head eight by HKFC’s Angus Allan to maintain the status quo. But soon after, at the other end of the pitch, Yan Lee Adams got behind the KNS defense to score for HKFC after 5 minutes of play for a 1-0 lead.
HKFC had the best of play during the remainder of the 1st half producing a number of additional scoring chances but their timing was off just missing good opportunities leaving the score-line at 1-0 until the 2nd half.
KNS started the 2nd half in style and equalized after 5 minutes when No 40 Lovepreet-Singh hit the ball across the HKFC goalie for No 25 to push the ball home for 1-1.
KNS players continued to combine well for the next 15 to 20 minutes of play putting much pressure on the HKFC defense and looked favorites to add to their score. But it was HKFC that got the next break. An unforced error by KNS 12 minutes from full time, gave HKFC a side line hit well into the KNS half, HKFC pushed goalwards and after several attempts at goal a shot by Ishtiaq Ahmed was partially blocked by the KNS goalie fell for Angus Allan to defect it into the net for 2-1. This brought new life to HKFC, raising their game they continued to attack and with 6 minutes remaining Ishtiaq received a pass at the edge of the circle, maneuvered forward to score making it 3-1.
KNS trying frantically to get back into the game, pulled a goal back from a penalty corner with 3 minutes remaining but although they tried desperately to equalize HKFC held out for a 3-2 win.
The top match at King’s Park was Khalsa-A against HKCC-A a team that has been improving fast since moving into the Premier division just a couple of seasons ago. But in this match Khalsa came out winners by 5 goals to 1.
HKFC-A head Group A standings with 31 points, with Khalsa-A on 29 points and SSSC-A on 28 points both hold a game in hand.
In the Group B match at HKFC, Shaheen-A outplayed HKFC-B to win an entertaining game 6-1. At King’s Park Valley-A took 3 points off group leaders, Pak-A (14 points) to move into 2nd place in the standings on 11 points, HKFC-B drop to 3rd place but 2nd and 3rd placed teams have a game in hand.
