Over half of all adults in the European Union are overweight or obese, according to research published earlier this week.
The report published by Europe’s executive body, the European Commission, states the rate of obesity has doubled in the EU over the past 20 years.
For children, one out of seven is overweight or obese. “Children who are overweight or obese are at greater risk of poor health in adolescence and also in adulthood,” according to the research.
The report details that overall the average life expectancy in the 27 countries of the European Union has reached 74.3 years for men and 80.8 years for women. That is a rise of approximately three years for men and two years for women over the past decade.
