One of the things we often forget about being overweight is the physical and psychological difficulties it causes. It’s not just the shame that people feel when they are in public or when they see others looking at them; it’s also the feeling of not liking what you see when you look in the mirror.
For one Filipina woman, EJ Curamen Sison, enough finally became enough, and she went on a radical journey to get her body and her life back to the way she wanted them to be.
And she did it all thanks to a very simple snack—crackers!
There is always a reason to smile. Find it. 😊❤️🥀
Sison told When In Manila that the impetus for the diet was her discomfort. “I [wasn’t] happy anymore [with how I looked,] that I was already putting on that much weight.” Beyond just looks, Sison also found that her body itself wasn’t doing well with the extra pounds.
Having suffered from asthma, for Sison, being overweight exacerbated her condition, giving her scary asthma attacks on top of all the other things she was dealing with. Beyond asthma, “when I was around 90 kilos and above, my neck would often hurt. That’s why I urged myself to lose weight while I could,” Sison said.
When Sison did research on the best ways to shed pounds, she came across the “cracker diet,” which became wildly popular in the United States and elsewhere as the “F-Factor Diet,” promoted by Tanya Zuckerbrot.
My actual photo, 2years ago. Yes it's me! Craker diet in 3 straight months. Time, sweat, self-control and dedication….
For Sison, the popular Filipino brand of crackers called Skyflakes were her go-to food source. These tasty crackers are low in calories but high in fiber, meaning that they give you the sensation of being full without contributing to weight gain. As Sison told When In Manila, she would usually consume “4 to 6 packs of crackers a day.”
However, contrary to what some people believed, Sison wasn’t just surviving on plain crackers. The main subtraction from her old diet was rice, which is consumed in abundance by many people in the Philippines for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
In addition to the crackers, Sison continued to eat healthy foods, as When In Manila explained.
She started to pair her cracker meals with tuna or egg. In addition, she would also eat them alongside oatmeal, sweet potatoes, fruits, and veggies. Not just that, Sison also drank a lot of water, mostly warm.
Thank you When In Manila for this astounding article! 💕
As Sison explained, she didn’t do a lot of exercises or become a gym bunny, mostly because of her asthma. However, she did go to saunas frequently to help accelerate the weight-loss process and increase her metabolism.
When Sison finally finished her radical program, she had dropped an astronomical 57.2 pounds (approx. 25.9 kg) in total. However, far from being triumphant or attributing the incredible transformation to some special ability, she wrote about how anyone could do it.
“For the pessimistic, to those who have lost their faith, please don’t lose hope! If you really want it, you can do it,” she wrote on Facebook.
Sison said in her post, no matter what you look like, “there is always a reason to smile. Find it!”
