Fred White dies: One day after retiring as a broadcaster, Fred White died.

White spent 40 years in some capacity related to the Kansas City Royals, mostly as a broadcaster.

When White was replaced in 1998, many fans were upset, according to the Kansas City Star. Yet White remained with the organization, overseeing the Royals Radio Network.

He worked for many of the major channels in his career.

The Royals said his death came from “recent health issues,” and family members didn’t elaborate.

Team officials said he will be missed.

“Fred White has been synonymous with Royals baseball for as long as anyone can remember,” said Mike Swanson, the club’s vice president for communications and broadcasting.

“It’s unfortunate the circumstances with which he has had to step down. The family has asked for privacy, and we’re allowing that.”
