The Epoch Times is seeking experienced food writers to contribute feature articles about time-honored culinary traditions and recipes, from across the U.S. and around the world.
Applicants should have a passion for seeking out fascinating food stories; the ability to develop them with original reporting and careful research as needed; and the skill to tell them to a national audience in a way that engages, informs, and inspires.
In line with the Epoch Times tagline “Truth and Tradition,” we’re looking for stories that showcase traditional food culture and heritage—and the importance of preserving it—including:
-Reported deep-dives into traditional dishes, ingredients, techniques, and food rituals uniquely tied to a region/culture and its people and heritage; and
-Profiles of inspiring people dedicated to keeping these culinary traditions alive—whether chefs, artisans, entrepreneurs, family business owners, farmers, or home cooks.
-Pitch, report, and write in-depth food culture features and/or profiles
-Conduct original interviews with experts and local sources, supplementing with background research as needed
-Source or develop recipes to accompany articles when relevant
-Provide or source hi-res images to accompany articles
-Outstanding narrative writing and food writing skills
-Excellent interviewing and reporting skills
-Excellent research and fact-checking skills
-Culinary knowledge and kitchen expertise preferred
-Deep knowledge of and/or experience in the traditional cuisine(s) of a specific region/culture a plus
-2+ years journalism experience, preferably with a focus on food/drink
-Professional cooking and/or recipe development experience a plus
-A passion for food, people, and storytelling
