Five American Muslims were each sentenced to 10 years in prison for charges of terrorism in Pakistan on Thursday.

According to prosecutors, the men conspired to commit terrorist attacks in Pakistan and funded terrorist groups.

The men, aged between 18-25, were arrested last December in the northern city of Sargodha.

The trial was closed to journalists, observers, and family members. It took place in a special antiterrorism court within a prison in Sargodha, according to AP.

The case has highlighted concerns of Americans traveling to Pakistan to join extremist groups.

The men lived in the Washington, D.C., area and were originally from Egypt, Pakistan, and Ethiopia. They denied having links to extremist organizations, and insisted they intended to go to Afghanistan for charity work.
