NEW YORK—Early Wednesday morning a group of four Rockettes visited Magnolia Bakery at Rockefeller Center to welcome the return of a special cupcake—named after them.

Topped with whipped vanilla icing and a special dark chocolate medallion, the Rockette Red Velvet Cupcake also features one of the Rockettes’ costumes.

“A chocolaty cupcake with a light and airy icing—so not too heavy. We actually top it with some edible disco dust as well. It’s a little glittery, so it’s fun for the holiday season,” said Sara Gramling, vice president for public relations for the bakery.

Magnolia Bakery is often credited with starting the “cupcake craze” in the city. Its fluffy cupcakes with rich and buttery icing had people knocking on the bakery doors even past closing time.

For several years, Magnolia Bakery has been offering limited edition cupcakes during the holiday season.

Although popular, the Red Velvet cupcakes are only available at the Rockefeller Center Location, next to Radio City Music Hall, until the end of the Rockettes’ performances on Dec. 30.
