CHICAGO—Two business owners left Chicago’s Cadillac Palace surprised by the cultural revival they had just experienced.
“I was shocked—I didn’t expect it to be that good,” said Victor Caterino, principal at Family Med Centers.
Mr. Caterino and his wife Martha, who owns a natural health business, on May 11 saw Shen Yun Performing Arts, a New York-based company that formed to revive the 5,000 year-old, divinely inspired Chinese culture.
“Through the universal language of music and dance, Shen Yun weaves a wondrous tapestry of heavenly realms, ancient legends, and modern heroic tales, taking you on a journey through 5,000 years of Chinese culture,” explains the company’s website. “Its stunning beauty and tremendous energy leave audiences uplifted and inspired.”
Mr. Caterino said that the performance was “breathtaking.”
The choreography was perfect, he said, and the dancers were amazing. “Very well put together,” he said.
For Ms. Caterino, Shen Yun is “a nice, beautiful thing to have in this part of the world.”
Shen Yun tours to 100-plus cities each year, gracing many of the world’s best theaters.
The depth of culture presented by the company “opens the eyes” and “opens the minds” of Westerners to the rich history of China, said Mr. Caterino.
“I love it,” said Ms. Caterino. “Everything is so nice.”
“I think,” concluded Mr. Caterino, “everybody should see it.”
