In the age of technology, some senior citizens have to rely on their grandchildren to navigate the internet or help using a mobile phone. One curious granny in the Philippines went a step further—she counted on a delivery man to get her some food, and he gladly obliged.
Recently, Maris Mayol Tian, from Bacolod City, the Philippines, ordered her breakfast online from fast food chain Jollibee.
Shortly after she placed her order, the delivery man from Jollibee arrived at her door. What unfolded next left her in awe about this online food-ordering experience.
Tian’s 92-year-old neighbor caught sight of the delivery man handing her food at the gate.
Curious, her neighbor called the delivery man over, asking him what was he doing. The man kindly told the elderly woman that his job was to deliver food. Hearing that, she was keen to place her order.
“She proceeds by enumerating her order,” Tian recounted on Facebook.
The delivery man could have just brushed off her request, but surprisingly, he took note of her order seriously.
“I honestly thought he would just ignore her, laugh and be on his way, but he actually took out his own cellphone [sic], dialed a number, and ordered for her!!!” Tian wrote.
It might just be a simple act of kindness, but Tian was impressed.
So I just ordered my breakfast from Jollibee and my 92 YEAR OLD neighbor saw me with the delivery guy. When lola saw…
“There was a time when I hated Jollibee’s delivery service because they messed up a few times, but now I think I’m going to order more delivery from them,” she concluded.
In the end, Tian ran inside the house to grab her phone so she could snap a photo showing the sweet interaction between her neighbor and the delivery man.
The photo and the heartwarming story behind it later spread like wildfire on Facebook, receiving more than 340,000 reactions.
Tian’s friends were full of praises for the delivery man.
“The driver had compassion and that’s really commendable,” one friend wrote.
Another commented, “He deserves the recognition.”
According to Tian, the delivery man, later identified as Elpegie Palmares Sicor, eventually received the recognition that he truly deserved.
“Since the post was shared, the delivery guy and I became friends on Facebook! He sent me a message to thank me for the post,” Tian wrote for Love What Matters. “He was very humble. He said that he was praised at work, he said it was a nice feeling.”
Never underestimate the power of a small act of kindness.
