A drone has crashed at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Florida, closing down U.S. Route 98, according to reports.

WJHG-TV reported that the drone crashed at 8:15 a.m. near the route in the Silver Flag area.

Witnesses described the drone as a QF 4 model that came in hard before it exploded and emitted a black cloud, the station reported.

The local Sheriff’s Office said they got 911 calls from people who thought a plane caught fire.

There was a drone crash near Tyndall last Wednesday when a drone was destroyed over the Gulf of Mexico.

The News Herald publication said U.S. 98 will be closed for an unknown period of time.
