PASADENA, Calif.—Pasadena ushers in the New Year with the traditional Rose Bowl Parade and game, but this year is also host to the Divine Performing Arts "Chinese New Year Spectacular"-a multimedia production enchanting theatergoers celebrating the first day of the year.

A former dancer and current actress living in Pasadena, Margaret, was among the enthusiastic audience members. A spirited elderly woman with curly gray hair and a radiant smile, she explained why she was drawn to the show.

“Many years ago I studied dancing with Ruth St. Denis."

Ruth St. Denis was famous for her interpretations of dance with the divine in the early to mid 20th century.

Introduced by an aunt when she lived in San Diego as a girl, she learnt many different kinds of dance, "And a little Chinese too.” she said.

So inspired by Divine Performing Arts, she gestured with her arms conveying her passion for dance,“the movements are so beautiful, when you hear the music you want to flow with it.”

She quoted a phrase describing her love of Asian dance, “Ballet is from the waist down but oriental dancing is the whole body.”

Her impression of the show: “So eloquent it's hard to consume, there is so much art.”

She said that she wanted to join the dancers.
