DURHAM,North Carolina—"It's beautiful, very inspiring, and I think I learned a lot about Chinese culture. It's very humbling to learn from people who have thousands of years of culture," said John Ferra, a native from Costa Rica, after watching the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) show in Durham at the Durham Performing Arts Center on Sunday night Dec 28. Mr. Ferra is the president of a credit union in Durham.

Ms. Ferra, also a native from Costa Rica, thought, just as her husband, that the show brought some kind of spiritual healing. "We can have more hope and faith, and we can see life totally different, and our families will be better."

Mr. Ferra said: "The message is one of life and hope, and of human kindness. It reminds us that the most important thing on this earth are human beings. It's the people itself, it's the best asset that we have,"

Understanding Each Other

"The Chinese culture is certainly interesting. It wants to make me go visit China," explained Mr. Brannan, a business manager from Durham.

Mr. Wallace, a Durham physician was also impressed with the show and said, "I really find the show enjoyable and very meaningful. I think it's very important to understand the classical traditions of other cultures, and it is through things like this that we come to understand each other much better."

Costumes and Dance 'like a piece of art'

"It was just very interesting to me," Ms. Lee, a Durham English teacher said.

"It seems like some of the dances were designed to enhance the costumes and some of the costumes were designed to enhance the dances, and I loved seeing that—that was just so beautiful the way that was mixed.

"The dancers were so graceful and beautiful, and then they would use their skirts in a way that the story and the visual was all about the costume, and it was like a piece of art, a painting," said Ms. Lee admiringly.
