SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.—Mr. D. and his aunt, a concert pianist, attended one of the first performances of the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) this year in San Francisco.

Mr. D., who works as a public servant, enjoyed that the show's visual effects enhanced the story-telling of the performers on stage.

"I think it is very cultural. It represents the divine philosophy," he explained.

Both Mr. D. and his aunt were impressed by the quality and message of the show's musical performances.

"The soprano sang two beautiful songs about life. The show portrays a humbleness about life and a simple vision of the world. I am very impressed with it," said Mr. D.

His aunt, who is a musician of Chinese heritage, said the show was overall "really great" and the music was expressive.

"The music is beautiful. It is the first time that I have seen anything like this. It wakes you up. It makes you want to see what is happening. They don't say too much; they say it in their music. It is their music that expresses them, their world and what they are thinking," she said.

She also enjoyed learning more about traditional Chinese culture through the DPA's performances.

"I have never seen a show like this in my life," she said. "It demonstrates the life, the unity of the people and the culture of the people. It also shows how they dress and gives you an alertness about the world."
