CHICAGO—At the Divine Performing Arts show on Saturday Dec. 27 at the Civic Opera House in Chicago, in the moments before the bells chimed and intermission came to an end, Mr. Brinker, a lawyer, had much to say regarding the show.

When asked what his favorite part of the show was, he said: “I enjoyed most The Monkey King Triumphs, that was my favorite. It resonated with me, the themes and the traditions that we maybe heard and grew up with in terms of European fables—people being good!“ When asked about what part he thought was most beautiful he responded with, ”I liked the stories that were told that were part of the dances.”

Mr. Brinker felt that the show radiated the idea that tradition is important to human beings and human culture.

‘The costumes are magnificent’

Across the room Ms. Remily, a technical designer of a clothing catalog, said that the show was, “Fabulous! Just fabulous! I am in the clothing industry. The costumes are magnificent. The dancers are very elegant ... The background ... there is actually movements in the screen.”

Ms. Remily, being in the business, knows quality when she sees it. After all, these are materials she works hands-on herself. She continued, “There is the color change ... The garments are made so they move with the dancers. The sleeves that move that go with the music, and the colors are all blended in with the background.”

Ms. Thrasher, a real estate broker from Alabama who came to the show with Ms. Remily, was “very pleased” with the every aspect of the performance. “The shading of the colors going from the deeper to the lighter; it does something special with the lighting combined. It’s magnificent; more than I’d have ever expected,” she said.

 ‘I will recommend it’

Another figure from the theater business, Mr. Aliperta, a hair-stylist, saw classical Chinese dance for the first time. He came to the show with his wife Angela and his two daughters, Rosanna and Claudia. “I think it’s wonderful,“ he said. ”I really enjoyed it a lot, especially the costumes and the singing ... I will recommend it to people to come and see.”

Mr. Stapleton, a graduate student of art history at an Illinois University, came to the show with his wife. “It was excellent, really really good, really a spectacular. I enjoyed the coordination of all the dancers together.” he said.

Mr. Stapleton has a Bachelor’s degree in dance education. He came to see the show because he is studying Chinese and is very interested in Chinese arts. He said he would like to learn Chinese dance as well. Mrs. Stapleton, who is also in art history and is studying Chinese, said she liked the performance and the coordination very much.
