Doug Phillips, president of the Vision Forum Ministries, resigned recently over an affair.

Phillips wrote on the group’s website that he “ engaged in a lengthy, inappropriate relationship with a woman.”

“While we did not ‘know’ each other in a Biblical sense, it was nevertheless inappropriately romantic and affectionate,” he said in his statement of resignation.

“There are no words to describe the magnitude of shame I feel, or grief from the injury I caused my beloved bride and children, both of whom have responded to my repentance with what seems a supernatural love and forgiveness,” he added.

Phillips and his wife Beall have eight children, reported the Christian Post, and have also been involved in the Quiverfull Movement, which doesn’t use birth control.

Vision Forum aimed at restoring Biblical elements to families, which are the backbone of the church, it says on its website.

But the forum’s board of directors announced that following the resignation of Phillips, the forum will discontinue operations.

“While we believe as strongly as ever in the message of the ministry to the Christian family, we are grieved to find it necessary to make this decision,” they wrote. “We believe this to be the best option for the healing of all involved and the only course of action under the circumstances.”
