FRANKFURT, Germany—The first performance of the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) 2009 World Tour in Europe was held in Frankfurt at the popular Jahrhunderhalle on Saturday, Feb. 21. Among the audience members were Ms. Rickert, head of marketing at a furniture company, and her husband, who are both very interested in culture.

They truly loved how the DPA presented culture and history through the show. “This was done exceptionally well. It is also rather impressive how they blend dance, culture, and modern times,” Ms. Rickert said.

She was also impressed with the digital backdrops, the stage design, the overall effect on stage, the costumes, the amazing dance, and how emotions were expressed.

“This is very inspirational. One can learn a lot.”

Ms. Rickert was herself a ballet dancer from the age of 6 to 16. Therefore, she deeply understands how much effort it takes for the dancers to get to this standard and make their performance seem effortless.

“There is a lot of training behind what we see on stage. They must be very talented, have a strong capability of showing expression, and must have a lot of performing talent. The artists must have a lot of empathy to be able to impart emotions. For this, one needs a strong spirit, and one can truly feel this,” she said.

She was also fascinated by the music. “The combination of the different musical instruments that have their origins in Western and Chinese culture is very interesting. The combination was successful and very appealing.”

The PDA orchestra brings together two of the world’s greatest classical music traditions, Chinese and Western, in a masterful fusion. With Western instruments as its base, the orchestra brings out Chinese musical flair through a variety of Chinese instruments. All of the music is original and composed to fit with each dance.

The colorful costumes and different types of skirts in yellow and turquoise reminded Ms. Rickert of her youth.

“The fashion can be inspirational and bring together different cultures,” she said.

Her husband also liked the show. “I liked very much the way they portrayed dignity and compassion, and it gave me a lot of energy,” he said.
