Joel Thibodeau aka Death Vessel is evidently not a man to hide his intelligence under a bushel. Before the first minute of album opener ‘Block My Eye’ is up we’ve already had to reach for our dictionaries to look up the glorious term “genuflecting”. His intellectual precocity only adds to the similarities he shares with fellow virtuoso Sufjan Stevens. ‘Jitterkadie’ and ‘Brunos Torso’ would easily make it onto any Stevens album and that should be viewed as the ultimate compliment. Thibodeau’s voice has a remarkable clarity and although its pitch can grate slightly at times, this is on the whole an album well worth investigating.
