The “dead mermaid in discovered in Florida” YouTube video continues getting views and comments years after it was first published. It claims that a dead mermaid was found washed up on the shores of Gators Pass in Florida.

The YouTube user who uploaded the video, “TampaDarkMetal,” said that the mermaid was sent to Australia for further scientific study, but hasn' published a follow-up video with any information.

In a rebuttal video it is alleged that the video is fake because of several reasons, including that the creature’s hair appears to be a wig. The hair looks combed and clean, which would be unlikely if it was floating dead in the water.

Also, the corpse looks mummified, which wouldn’t happen while floating in sea water, the video alleges.

Additionally, the texture and cracks on the creature’s body indicate it may have been made of paper mache or plastic.
