NEW YORK—Mayor-Elect Bill de Blasio appointed the city’s next budget director on Wednesday, tapping , Dean Fuleihan to oversee New York City’s $69 billion budget.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg handed de Blasio a balanced budget, but fiscal trouble looms as pension, healthcare, and debt service costs continue to grow.

Fuleihan has served more than three decades in top posts for the state Assembly, including as the chief fiscal and policy adviser to the Assembly leadership.

He was the Assembly’s principal staff negotiator on the $130 billion state budget.
