A police dash cam video shows the moment when a Prince George’s County police officer went plunging into a freezing pond during a water rescue on the afternoon of Sunday, Jan. 21.

Three people fell into the pond, which lies near Flintridge Drive in Glenridge Park, Riverdale, Maryland.

Officer Tim Tully, a new addition to the department, arrived at the scene with his supervisor to find the three young men struggling for their lives in a pond too deep to stand in.

“They were frantic, they were screaming, they were exhausted,” Tully said. “And the one guy… I could tell, he was fading fast.”

Before the department arrived, the officers decided to attempt a rescue themselves, but the ice broke under Tully.

Fortunately, he was able to get out of the pond while rescuing one of the three men. The other two men were rescued by the fire department.
