ST. LOUIS—At part of their world-wide tour, Divine Performing Arts (DPA) began a series of three performances in St. Louis at the beautiful Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center on Feb. 6.

Present were Mr. and Mrs. Manois who had never having experienced a Chinese cultural show before.

Mrs. Manois, a gymnast with experience as a choreographer, was very impressed: “I love dancing, and we are really enjoying it!”

She could appreciate the quality of dance she was seeing: “Oh, it’s phenomenal, it’s beautiful, it’s very difficult. I can tell they work really hard. All the body movements and you know all the strengths they have, it’ really hard. It looks easy, but it’s not, it’s hard.

Classical Chinese dance hass a unique heritage. In its early stages, it was mainly passed down among the common people, through members of the imperial court, and as part of ancient theater.

Classical Chinese dance has its own complete set of training methods in foundational skills, a strict regimen for perfecting bearing and form, and means of training for skill sets such as jumps, turns, and flips, as well as extremely demanding aerial techniques, culminating in an enormous dance system. The aerial movements of classical Chinese dance contain a wealth of high-flying dives, dexterous leaps, and diverse spins.

Mrs. Manois was also fascinated by the costumes, “They are all unique, every one of them. Beautiful!”

Mr. Manois who came with her for the show added, “Love it, the dancing is very nice. Well, my wife’s a dancer, so we enjoy watching the dancing. She loves to dance.”

Both would highly recommend the show to friends.
