Many people have reported having sensed the closeness of a guardian angel in their hour of need. It’s believed to have been felt mainly while experiencing severe shock and is usually sensed as being warm, protective, and strengthening.
A young woman from Nashville, Tennessee, reported seeing her “guardian angel” shortly after the truck she and her boyfriend were traveling in veered off the road and slammed into a pole at high speeds.
Arika Stovall shared her story with Love What Matters after the incident. She wrote, “Three seconds. That’s how long we had from the moment we drifted off the road until the truck hit the pillar at 85mph.”
Her boyfriend, Hunter Hanks, a former professional baseball player, was behind the wheel when it happened. Three seconds was all the time he had to save their lives. What came next, though, was for all intents and purposes miraculous.
The truck spun and hit a pole at the exact right angle so that, on the impact, it struck right in between both of them, leaving both, amazingly, unharmed. The couple escaped death by a hair’s breadth!
After the impact, Arika said she went into a full-blown panic mode and started screaming for Hunter to say something. He wasn’t moving. His head had gone through the windshield and his face was covered in blood.
That’s when Arika said she saw her “guardian angel.”
She looked out of the truck towards the road—there were no other vehicles around. Then she said she perceived a man with a big white beard, and her intuition told her at once that he was her guardian angel.
“He saw me and immediately told me that an ambulance was coming. I jumped out of the car, ran over to Hunters side and just looked at this man.”

She said that she kept looking at the man while sitting by Hunter’s side on the road. Arika was comforted by his presence and able to offer that comfort to Hunter. She knew in her heart then that Hunter was safe with her and that he was going to be okay.
“This man looking at him for a short moment helped me not witness Hunter being peeled out of the truck,” she wrote. “I believe if I saw that I would have had a heart attack.”
When Hunter was taken out and put next to her, she turned to the man and asked him when the ambulance was coming. “He told me ‘in just a second.’ He walked away,” she wrote.
In a flash, the paramedics were on the scene, and they were astounded that the couple were not killed instantly, as the truck looked like it had been through a “tree grinder.”
It's only by the grace of God (that we don't deserve) that just 2 days later we're able to smile and stand in front of…
But they were virtually unscathed. They had no broken bones, concussions that lasted not even 24 hours, and no internal damage. Arika had a few stitches on her knee, and Hunter had a couple on his face, and that was it.
Arika and Hunter were released from the hospital 48 hours later.
“All of our belongings in perfect condition besides a few things here and there, and the only thing left behind at the crash scene is Hunter’s Bible open, with a page marked with scripture telling us to not be afraid; Jesus is with us,” she wrote.
Hunter felt responsible for the accident and told her that it was his fault that she was in pain, “But he saved my life,” Arika had told him.

Arika is immensely grateful and proud of Hunter. She firmly believes he did everything in his power to save her.
“The whole baseball player part helped him out … if he can hit a 95mph fastball he can do anything. He took care of me. And when we were both lying in our beds in the ER he found a way to come protect my heart and give me a hug,” Arika wrote.
Oftentimes, we don’t know why things happen the way they do, and it may seem that there are few reasons for the accidents or injustices in our lives.
After Arika’s experience, though, she shared her message that such incidents are part of a plan. And although she says they are “blessed to be okay,” she believes the wreck helped her to realize that God was involved in every part of her life.
