A heartwarming photo of a cop in Telangana, India, going above and beyond the call of duty “to protect and to serve” surfaced on social media platforms, tugging at the heartstrings of many Indians.
The photo shows head constable Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, from Moosapet police station, cradling a baby while sitting on a bench.
This touching moment unfolded when a woman from an underprivileged family came to the exam center in Boys Junior College, Mahabubnagar, where Rehman was on duty, with her sister-in-law and 4-month-old baby.

“Since we do not allow any accomplice to stay within the premises of the exam hall, we made them wait outside the school,” Rehman, a 48-year-old father of two, told TNM.
The woman’s sister-in-law, barely 15 or 16 years old, cared for the baby outside the school, but the infant kept crying.
“It was a three-hour long exam. The baby was quiet and played on the girl’s lap for about an hour. But as time passed, the baby started squirming,” Rehman shared. “The girl clearly had no idea how to manage the infant.”
Not wanting to see the baby cry, Rehman kindly offered to lend a hand.
He tried to cheer the wailing baby and comforted him tenderly as her mother—a postgraduate who desperately needed a job—sat for an exam to join the police force inside the hall.
“It stopped crying within a few minutes I took him into my lap. I even tried lulling him to sleep. After I made sure the baby was asleep, I handed him over to the little girl, who was, by then, relieved,” Rehman said.
The photo showing Rehman consoling the baby was shared on Twitter by Indian Police Service (IPS) Officer Rema Rajeswari.

Rajeswari, a District Police Chief in Telangana State, wrote, “Head Constable Officer Mujeeb-ur-Rehman (of Moosapet PS) who was on duty for conducting SCTPC exam in Boys Junior College, Mahbubnagar trying to console a crying baby, whose mother was writing exam inside the hall.”
She concluded the post with the hashtags #HumanFaceOfCops and #Empathy.
The tweet went viral, receiving more than 25,000 reactions and over 5,900 shares.
Seeing a humane side of police, which many rarely get to see, many netizens were touched.
“We need more cops like him to keep instilling faith in us that humanity exists,” one wrote.
Another commented, “Humanity is still alive. Hats off to the police officer.”
“He’s an inspiration to every policeman & human being,” another opined.
Rehman went on to share the reason why he lent a hand.
“We are here to serve the public. We are here because of the public. Nothing is more important to me,” Rehman told NDTV.
Clearly, Rehman takes the motto “to protect and to serve” to heart.
We salute Rehman for a job well done! Hopefully, Rehman’s gesture of kindness will encourage other police to do the same.
