Woman Refuses Police Instructions and is Removed From Train
Video footage of a police officer pulling a woman off the LA metro has gone viral.
According to the LA Times, the incident occurred after a young woman refused a request by a police sergeant to take down her foot from an adjacent seat.
Footage was posted on Facebook by one onlooker, Brock Ryan. The footage above is a news clip that shows only selected moments of the incident.
The sergeant told the woman to remove her foot from the seat. When she refused, he told her she must leave the train. When she also refused that, he physically removed her, and can be seen dragging her by the arm through the door.
The clip, which gained 10 million views in 3 days, has stirred mixed opinions on social media, with many pointing out that the officer appeared to remain calm throughout the incident.
“I don’t see any abuse here,” wrote Deisy Suarez in the top comment on the FB. “All she had to do was excuse herself move her feet and carry on!”
The police are now conducting an investigation into the incident.
Mayor Eric Garcetti said investigators are reviewing multiple videos of what happened.
“Videos can sometimes tell one picture,” he told the LA Times. “We’ll have the videos that the officers had as well as the videos that were made.”
The incident took place on Monday, Jan. 22, and follows a recent crackdown on code-of-conduct violations on trains, which include eating, drinking, vaping, littering and placing feet or shoes on seats.
A different woman was arrested for spitting on the police officer during the incident.
