The Common Application for students applying to college in the 2010-11 school year is available online today, marking the end of summer vacation for rising high school seniors across the nation who look forward to matriculating to institutions of higher education in the fall of 2011.

The Common Application, a non-profit organization founded 35 years ago, provides a standardized admissions application that prospective first-year and transfer students can submit to any of its 415 member institutions.

This is the first year that the application will also be accepted at international schools—Jacobs University Bremen in Germany and The American University of Rome in Italy.

The organization was founded by 15 private colleges in 1975 to facilitate the college application process, but its membership expanded to include 47 public institutions among its ranks.
