The canine-like animals had an appearance similar to the description of the legendary chupacabra, reported NBC News.

Frank Hackett, the Hood County Animal Control Officer, shot the first one in a barn after the animal displayed hostility. The owner of the barn, Jack Farr, had called the animal control office when he discovered the creature on his property.

A few days after the first animal was killed, a similar one was shot by a rancher who lived within ten miles of Farr’s home.

Farr said that although he had seen plenty of animals around the barn, he was puzzled by the coyote look-alike. Locals say that these animals could be chupacabras, a blood-sucking creature mentioned in Spanish folktales.

“It was ugly, real ugly, I’m not going to tell no lie on that one,” Hackett told San Antonio, TX television station WOAI.

The animal DNA is being studied is being tested at Texas A&M University. Sharman Hoppes, assistant professor and veterinarian, told the Forth Worth Star-Telegram that he examined a purported chupacabra shot by a Hood County deputy last week. Hoppes said the animal was a sick coyote.

Whether they are the legendary monster “chupacabra” or something else, the animals’ identities remain unclear until DNA tests are concluded.
