The Supreme People’s Procuratorate opened a training course in Beijing for 3,000 chief procurators across the nation to improve their ability to exercise legal supervision.

According to Xinhuanet, the training on a rotating basis started on February 26 and will end before 2010. In two years about 3,000 chief procurators at the grassroots level are expected to have a 10-day course.

Sixteen training sessions have been planned for this year. Each has some 150 attendants, who will receive the training on the view of science development, the ideas of socialism rule of law and procuratorial system with Chinese characteristics, the reform of procuratorial system and judicial system.

Cao Jianming, Procurator-General of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, called this intensive training for chief procurators nationwide a historical event.

The first training session followed the training of 3,000 directors of county level Public Security Bureaus, which began on Feb. 18.

There are more than 3,000 procurators at the local level, which account for 80 percent of the total in the country.
