H1N1 flu has been escalating in China as clusters of H1N1 cases have been detected in more than 10 provinces and autonomous regions in China.
As of the afternoon of Sept. 7, a total of 5,592 cases have been confirmed, including 1,177 new cases which developed during the three-day period of Sept. 5-7, according to China’s state-run media.
Since September, the virus has spread more quickly from cities to the countryside and has sickened more people at the community level. In addition, clusters of H1N1 cases also occurred in many schools and universities.
Recently, Epoch Times reporters have been able to get in touch with certain domestic areas where cases have been reported, confirming that the virus has spread to over 10 provinces and autonomous regions including the provinces of Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Jiangsu, Sichuan, Guangxi, Guangdong, and the Autonomous Regions of Xinjiang and Ningxia.
New A/H1N1 cases have been detected in Shandong, including 16 cases at Qingdao Technological University and nine in a high school in the city of Qingdao. All the patients have been placed under quarantine, according to the Shandong Provincial Health Department.
An official at Qingdao Technological University told The Epoch Times that since Sept. 3 the start of the fall semester has been postponed to Oct. 10. The entire school is under quarantine, so no one is allowed to enter or leave the campus.
According to Guangdong media, as of Aug. 30 the total number of cases of A/H1N1 flu reached 825 in domestic areas of Guangdong. Clusters of cases were reported in the Pearl River Delta region. There were eight new A/H1N1 cases in Shenzhen City between Sept. 1 and Sept. 4.
Zhengzhou Municipal Health Department reported that Zhengzhou Business Technology Institute has an A/H1N1 outbreak and has been forced to close school for one week.
On Sept. 7, the Hebei Provincial Health Department had confirmed 67 cases of H1N1 flu in the university city of Langfang, involving five institutions. The flu spread from Lanfang’s Armed Police Force Academy.
The swine flu statistics do not include data from the Armed Police Force Academy due an information blockade by authorities.
By the night of Sept.5, China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region confirmed that primary and secondary schools in the capital city of Urumqi remained closed in the wake of the recent outbreak of 43 A/H1N1 cases.
On Sept. 6, 27 cases were confirmed at three schools in southwestern Chongqing City, 10 at a middle school in Sichuan, and 29 at four schools in Jiangsu.
According to Li Dexin, Director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, it is the unavoidable spreading of the H1N1 strain of flu throughout the country.
