China’s ambassador to Canada Lu Shaye is well aware of the fact that Canada’s government is comprised of an array of ethno-cultural and political individuals who could never be considered as being “white supremacists.” So why the serious allegation? I would suggest that his outburst was a “dog whistle” designed to incite vigorous and boisterous protest against the Canadian government over the Huawei matter—the arrest of CFO Meng Wanzhou.
We cannot afford to underestimate the patience and cunning of the Chinese Communist Party that rules China.
We should not only send the ambassador packing, we should also close our embassy in China for a short while. Beijing must be made to understand that Canada is not the Philippines or Vietnam. While we do need foreign investments and trade, we will not bow to anyone who resorts to threats of “dire consequences.”
