Hundreds of people, many of whom had bought tickets to the Electric Zoo music festival, took to Central Park on September 1 after the festival’s third day was cancelled by city officials and festival organizers.

In the middle of the afternoon people started meeting up in Central Park and tweeting out to, texting, and calling friends to come and join them. The number of people swelled until hundreds were gathered in the park and at the Columbus Circle entrance to the park. Some people said New York Police Department officers started arresting people, after which a portion of the group went to Times Square.

The Electric Zoo festival’s third day was cancelled by city officials and festival organizers after two people died from apparent drug overdoses.
