Canada Day is Tuesday, July 1, and a number of businesses and services are closed.

Libraries, LCBO and Beer Stores, government offices, and all banks are closed during the holiday.

Schools, post offices, and libraries are also closed.

Many businesses, grocery stores, convenience stores, and others are closed, but some are open.

Malls, tourist sites, and transit operators are generally open, but it’s best to check in advance.

Walmart is only closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. It may have limited hours on Victoria Day, so check listings.

Target is also open. It may have limited hours on Victoria Day, so check listings.

Best Buy is also open, but it may have limited hours on Victoria Day.

Costco usually is closed on Victoria day but it’s worth checking local listings.

Sobeys is usually open regular hours. Check local listings.

Shoppers Drug Mart are also open but check local listings.

According to Statutory Holidays, “Canada Day celebrates the birthday of Canada. On July 1, 1867 Canada became a new federation with its own constitution by signing the Constitution Act - formerly known as the British North America Act.

“Canada Day is a national statutory holiday celebrated in all provinces and territories and it is a day off for most businesses. There is, of course, a lot more to Canada Day but the purpose of this page is only to give you a date and a brief history.”
