DALLAS—Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company wrapped up its final performance at the Winspear Opera House in Dallas on Sunday, Dec. 18 and was given continuous applause and cheers by the audience.

Johnny and Donna Cruz, owners and operators of a self-storage facility in Dallas, attended the performance on Sunday for the first time.

“I really enjoyed it. The background, the scenery, the dancers, the costumes, it was really fascinating,” Mr. Cruz said, adding that he “was excited all the time” throughout the performance.

Mr. Cruz noted that the in and “out of the background was really nice,” referring to the digital backdrop.

Each separate piece in Shen Yun has its own backdrop that portrays scenes ranging from ancient to modern China to scenes in the mountains, or in the heavens. The moving backdrop uses “state-of-the-art graphics technology” to transport the audience “to a world where heaven and earth are one,” the New York-based company says on its website.

Mrs. Cruz called Shen Yun “just a beautiful experience” and “can’t say enough about the dancers.”

‘Just unbelievable’

Another business owner, Deborah Wolfgram, also a State Farm agent, saw Shen Yun for a second time, bringing along her daughters and mother. “They’re very much enjoying it. And both my girls are in dance ... so just seeing that part of it was pretty impressive,” she said.

Encompassing a broad spectrum of movements, the ancient form of classical Chinese dance is the medium of expression employed by Shen Yun’s dancers. The dance is able to allow the performer to express the inner meanings of China’s 5,000-year-old culture, according to the company.

“The different dances were actually entertaining and funny. And the background and the electronics, just adds to the show,” she added.

Overall, the “the artistry, the talent, the skills,” and other aspects presented in Shen Yun is “just unbelievable,” Ms. Wolfgram said.

“The costumes are just so brilliant, with the colors,” she said. “It’s just incredible.” The brilliantly-colored costumes, as the dance company puts it, are based on designs from the Tang Dynasty, Chinese imperial dragon robes, Han couture, and ethnic wear from the Tibetan, Mongolian, Dai, Uyghur, and Manchurian ethnic groups.
