NEW YORK—Saturday afternoon’s opening show of Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company in New York met with rave reviews.

Ms. Rios, who is in business with her daughter as an event and wedding coordinator, was impressed with many aspects of what she saw.

“It was beautiful,” said Ms. Rios. “The colors were powerful. They just move so gracefully.”

She added that she missed the show last year, which visits New York every year, and said she was glad she had come this year, calling it “unbelievable.”

Ms. Rios attended with her daughter, who said she “enjoyed every bit of it.”

Shen Yun Performing Arts came into being in 2006 with a vision of cultural renewal. It was then that leading Chinese artists and several small performance companies joined together to revive an artistic tradition. For its first two-plus years the company was known as Divine Performing Arts.

Today, Shen Yun consists of three dance companies, three orchestras, and a host of choreographers, composers, costume designers, backdrop artists, and artistic staff.

Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company opened its first show of the Chinese Lunar New Year at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

Shen Yun will perform at Radio City Music Hall in New York the weekends of Feb. 13-14 and Feb. 20-21.
