Business Owner Finds ‘Pure Joy’ at Shen Yun
Todd Johns and his daughter, Stephanie Bollman, enjoyed watching Shen Yun at the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts, in Boise, Idaho, on March 20, 2018. "It has been such a privilege and honor to watch them perform and share their history and traditions," said Stephanie Bollman, a clinical supervisor working with children with disabilities. “I love it. ... I am not Chinese, but it feels like I am coming home. I have been to one of these shows every single year. I find it wherever it is in the world that I am close, I go see it. I found it three years ago and I just keep coming.”

“It seems to touch me in my heart. I absolutely love the dance. I truly don’t understand the Chinese culture like I should. But I love it. So far, this is my night. This is one of the few nights of the year, I go to a lot and a lot of shows—this is my night—this is for me. My daughter got invited this year.”

“Honestly when they do the traditional dances, there is something about their movements that make me feel like I am a real human—I am not even sure what word to use; ... happy, peaceful, serenity—I will think about this all summer long. This is my happy thought. I guess like Peter Pan, this is my happy thought coming to watch the show.”

“It hasn’t mattered what city I’ve been in when I’ve gone to see the show, [the experience] has always been the same.”

“I think it is a privilege to be here and to enjoy this. I truly enjoy it.”

“I know—I feel like a child again. I feel like I am at school. I am in the playground, I am with my friends. I don’t know how to describe it, but there is something so beautiful about that simple, subtle movement that just makes me smile. They [the artists] just make me a happy person.”

“The quality of their dance—it has been perfection.”

“I find just pure joy. It is a joyful celebration of life—of something bigger than each of us.”
