PASADENA, Calif.—“Chinese culture is amazing” was a catch-cry from theatergoers attending the Divine Permance Arts 2009 World Tour presentation held at Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Among them was university educational counselor, Frank R. who said, “I thought the show was fantastic and very impressive. The first dance, the flower dance, was really nice. It was all good but I really liked that one. It was all very good. I went to China this past summer so I really like the Chinese culture and what they stand for.”

June, a student, dubbed the presentation “a global phenomenon.”  “The music was awesome, I had never heard music like that before,” she said.  “It’s new to me, [even] the choreography was better than any other show I’ve seen before.  The last part when all the spirits were around the sun and Buddha was in the middle. I think that they were unique outfits.”

Ms. Mader, stained glass artist, said she found the female artists’ movements “beautifully choreographed and ultra-feminine. They are so serene, the men dynamic, the show is beautiful.”

Ms. Mader said seeing that she didn’t have family living in Los Angeles, she would invite “friends” to come to the show.

Restaurant manager Mauricio said, “Chinese culture is amazing.” He was captivated by the voice of the soprano and also with the portrayal of the Tibetan people in “Dance of the Snow-Capped Mountain.” On a scale of one to five, Mauricio said he would give the show “a five.”

“I thought it was spectacular,” said Ben, a student. “I really agreed with the views of the messages in the show, like ”you would not put down other people for what they believe in,“ referring to the item in which a father was tortured to death for his spiritual practice, Falun Dafa. He said ”everybody should be able to believe in what they choose.”

But, putting the divinely inspired aspects of the show aside, “the dancing was really well done,” he said.

An immigration consultant had little knowledge of Chinese culture before seeing the show.

Henry said he thought the DPA presentation, “very entertaining, very enlightening, my first exposure to traditional Chinese dance, very interesting.”

He said his favorite piece was “The Monkey King Triumphs,” truly appreciating the way the dance “conveys a story without words.”
