Each one of us has a different way of giving back to the community we live in. Some resort to giving their money to those in need, while others believe in providing support by giving their time and undivided attention. However, a 12-year-old boy from Utah has found his own special way to help the community.
Morgan Gero, from Western Jordon, might seem just like any other boy, but what’s different about him is that his golden-brown tresses go way below his shoulder.
“It’s annoying when people just think I’m a girl,” Morgan told Fox13 Now. “Usually when I go into the boy’s bathroom, people kind of look at me funny. Even the adults look at me funny. They’re like, ‘What are you doing in this bathroom?'”
But the reason behind Morgan’s long hair is sure to tug at your heartstrings.
The compassionate boy is growing his hair so that he can give it to all those kids who suffer health-related issues and end up losing hair due to their medical treatments.
Morgan is no stranger to medical issues. The big-hearted boy once fought to survive. He was born at 27 weeks as a premature baby and had to spend his first few days of life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
“I was born earlier than I was supposed to [be born],” Morgan said.
Alluding to the challenges that his parents faced at the time of his birth, Sandrine, his mother, said, “It was really hard. It was very traumatic for both me and my husband.”
She further added, “We did not know if he was actually going to live.”
Despite all the initial struggles, the strong-willed boy fought through all odds and made it up through today as a young, kindhearted youngster.
In early March 2019, Morgan’s mother took him to Main Attraction in Bountiful to cut off 12 inches of hair that he had been growing for about two years. The hairdresser at the salon separated his hair into individual ponytails and one by one chopped it off.
These precious golden-brown locks of hair would be donated to a non-profit organization, Wigs for Kids, who aim at “helping children look themselves and live their lives.”
Founder and Certified cosmetic therapist Jeffrey Paul has been serving kids suffering from hair loss since 1981. “Children shouldn’t have to worry about how they look, especially when they’re in the middle of a health crisis,” says Jeffrey Paul. “We want to give these kids the opportunity to feel good about themselves again.”
For Morgan, this is really important as he wants these children who are suffering from medical issues to be able to “feel normal.”
However, this isn’t the first time the Star Wars fan has donated his hair to a noble cause. He started to donate his hair two years ago and has been growing it for the last four years.
Tuesday Tresses: Morgan has always had long hair and loved the idea of donating it to help another child in need….
Morgan has been continuing this trend ever since, as he knows, “those kids who really need hair,” and he is happy he can help them out.
There is no stopping for Morgan even though he gets strange looks, comments, or is ridiculed for his appearance.
Indeed, this young lad is doing his bit for those who really need it, one strand at a time.
Way to go, Morgan! Keep up the good work.
