Blackberry Layoffs: Company Could Cut Up to 40 Percent of Staff by End of 2013

Blackberry could layoff up to 40 percent of its staff by the end of 2013.

The Wall Street Journal reported the news on Wednesday.

People familiar with the matter told the Journal that the layoffs will be across all departments and will occur in waves, “likely affecting several thousand employees.”

As of its last disclosure in March, Blackberry had 12,700 employees. 

The mobile device company has been struggling to compete with companies including Apple and has considered selling itself

The company laid off 250 people in July and have let go 5,000 in the last fiscal year alone.
