A Belgian man found 300,000 euros (US$393,630) in a safe in a former bank building, Belgian media reported on Monday.
Kaya Ferhat, 33, had bought the building for his small accountancy company. When he started renovations last week the safe was found in the building.
After opening it with the help of a friend and his brother, it turned out the safe contained bags with neat piles of 50- and 20-euro bills.
“We started counting it and counted around 300,000 euros,” Ferhat told Belgian newspaper de Standaard.
A transportation letter that was in the safe with the money was dated back to 2001.
“I didn’t consider for a second to keep the money,” said Ferhat. He says he immediately handed all money in to the police.
