Will Beauty and the Beast return for a season 3? The season 2 midseason finale airs tonight on CW (see the official description of the episode below).

It appears that the final six episodes of the season will begin airing in May.

CW Network’s president told Collider earlier this year that there’s no commitment to renew the show.

“We’ve made no decisions, whatsoever,” Mark Pedowitz said. “We had to change something on the schedule so that we could launch Star-Crossed and The 100, so Beauty and the Beast will come on at end of May and finish its run through the season.  And then, we’ll make a decision come May, whether or not it gets renewed.  But, I’m very happy with the creative.  I think Brad Kern has done a really good job.”

Zap2It, which uses viewing data to predict cancellations and renewals, currently has the show listed as “more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May 2014.”

However, the blog updates the predictions after every episode, so the midseason finale might push the show back onto safer ground.

The official description for episode 16, airing at 9 p.m. ET: “In order to prevent Sam (guest star Tom Everett Scott) from destroying a large group of people, Cat (Kristin Kreuk) and Vincent (Jay Ryan) are forced to revisit a romantic destination from their past, which enables them to come to a new realization about what they mean to one another.”
