Bearded Redhead Stole Red Panda Acrobat’s $25,000 Unicycle
An unknown man stole luggage with the signature 7-foot unicycle used by the “Red Panda Acrobat” in her juggling act. The bearded man with red hair in a ponytail took the luggage from a baggage claim carousel at the San Francisco International Airport on Wednesday, Jan. 24.
The San Francisco performer, Rong Niu, has had trouble continuing her act without the custom-made, $25,000 prop.
“She’s heartbroken,” her agent, Pat Figley of San Francisco-based Farallon Entertainment, told KTVU. ”It’s like her baby was kidnapped. She’s had that unicycle for 30 years.”
Niu was only about 10-15 feet from the carousel, waiting for her suitcase after flying in from Denver. It is not clear if she spotted the thief.
Red Panda has been a regular performer for the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, and Lakers. She’s also appeared on America’s Got Talent.
She’s switched to a back up unicycle, but it doesn’t feel the same. “She’s doing horribly,” Figley said. “She’s dropping bowls. She’s just not used to it. The one that was stolen was custom built for her.”
